T-Rex Skull Fossil Fetches Millions at Auction

The passage of time might be equal to the value of an item. A Tyrannosaurus rex skull found in South Dakota is expected to sell for over $15 million at auction in New York. The six-and-a-foot fossil was named Maximus and it’s a giant find weighing roughly 200 pounds.

The skull was the only piece that stood the test of time as most of the remains were destroyed over time. Cassandra Hatton, Sotheby’s head of science and popular culture, said: “When you think about it, more people can fit a skull in their home than people who could fit a full dinosaur.”

The skull is about 76 million years old and still has most of the external skull bones and teeth. Hatton believes that the two large puncture holes in the skull could be the result of a fight with another T-Rex. “We don’t know that this is what caused the death of this animal, but we can tell that it did have a major battle during its lifetime,” she said.

A lucky homeowner is going to have one-of-a-kind decor. It’s safe to assume that it can’t be found in any other residence. “It’s the ultimate trophy,” Hatton said. “To place in one’s home.”
