While opossums aren’t uncommon in Texas, one showing up in your Christmas tree might give you quite the scare. A Texas woman was shocked by an early holiday surprise when she found an opossum hiding in the branches of her fake Christmas tree.
The woman, who goes by the name Brett, posted a video on TikTok of the opossum hiding inside the adorned tree in her home. She went on to explain that she didn’t know how the creature managed to get inside her fake tree as no doors had been left open.
In a follow-up video, Brett said that she heard noises after arriving home from work but initially thought they were coming from one of her three dogs or cat. She got up to investigate and discovered a “long rat tail” was sticking out from her tree.
The woman put on some rubber gloves and attempted to pull the animal out of the tree but it was using its claws to tightly cling to a branch. Eventually, Brett was able to pull the opossum free, the only issue was that it broke from her grasp and fled under a couch.
The animal ran from different furniture pieces until Brett was able to “tackle him like an NFL football player.” She placed the skittish opossum outside so it could carry on with its life away from her home. Hopefully, she won’t have any more surprises before Christmas.
