British Couple Drives Ambulance Around the World

A couple that rides together may end up staying together.

Lawrence Dodi and Rachel Nixon, a British couple who are both veterinarians, set out to purchase an RV to travel the world but an ambulance for sale on eBay was more appealing so they opted for the emergency vehicle. Every day is taking us a bit closer to our mortality, so perhaps the emergency is to live life to the fullest.

“We were looking for a functional vehicle to go traveling in and we fell in love with the ambulance and the aesthetics,” Dodi said.

The vet couple would be incomplete without a furry companion. The pair, along with their dog, Peggy Sue, took off in a Land Rover Defender with the aim of visiting 50 countries. As part of the journey, they were hoping to fetch the Guinness World Record for the longest journey in an ambulance.

The list of requirements included the exterior with the paint job must look like an emergency vehicle and the interior has to be stocked up with the supplies seen in a traditional medical transport. The couple managed to meet those conditions by sorting out the inner setup to squeeze in a small stove and a refrigerator.

Dodi and Nixon have now traveled to 24 countries across Europe and crossed more than 14,913 miles, which exceeds the current Guinness World Record at 12,427.4 miles.

The couple is still determined to reach their goal of visiting 50 countries and according to their plans, they will be shipping the ambulance across the ocean to drive across North and South America.

They are fully equipped to tend to emergencies along the way. In the hands of this duo, animals have a better survival rate than humans.
