Hot dogs and popsicles are summer food staples. In an odd but also genius marketing ploy, Oscar Mayer is uniting the two food to create the “Cold Dog.”
The Cold Dog is a frozen popsicle that tastes like the brand’s hot weiner and boasts “both refreshing and smokey, umami notes” of a hot dog, topped with a delicate mustard swirl. And it’s exactly what the people want for a cold treat.
The idea was posted in June 2022 as part of the company’s series of “stupid” or “genius” polls. The people spoke and deemed the idea as genius, which caught the eye of the Oscar Mayer creation team.
“After the overwhelming fan excitement for our beloved Cold Dog, it was a no-brainer to make this hot dog-inspired frozen pop a reality,” said Anne Field, an Oscar Mayer spokesperson, said.
The release comes as part of a collaboration with Popbar and the summer treat will be available at select Popbar locations in Long Beach, New York City, New Orleans and Alpharetta, Georgia, while supplies last. The Cold Dog retails for $2, giving you the best of both worlds for a reasonable price.
