Firefighters Stop for Fast Food During an Emergency

Two D.C. firefighters were accused of being more eager to satisfy their growling tummies than rescue a woman suffering from chest pain. While the lady in distress may be clenching at her upper body in pain, the dutiful men had their eyes set on Chick-fil-A fried chicken to grease and clog their arteries.

The firefighters were dispatched to an office after the woman was experiencing chest pain. “Ambulance 3 and Medic 3 respond for ALS (advanced life support) chest pain for a 57-year-old female at Kaiser Permanente,” a 911 center dispatcher said.

Despite the fact that an ALS call is always deemed a priority, two firefighters were more concerned with their needs before attending to a fellow community member. They said they had a long day and they were running on an empty tank with no food. The exhausted duo wanted to stop for a bite before they save the day. They pulled into a Chick-fil-A at 14th Street and Maryland Avenue NE, approximately a mile away from where the caller was located.

The woman was eventually taken to a hospital but the firefighters are under scrutiny for their negligence.

The pair defended themselves by stating they already ordered their food via an app before the emergency call came in so they thought a quick pit stop couldn’t kill anyone. The firefighters say there was no extra delay for the patient due to the food pick up.

A statement by the D.C. Fire and EMS said: “Our response monitoring system captured an anomaly in the response of Ambulance 3. This has led to an investigation and both crew members of Ambulance 3 have been placed in [a] no patient contact status.”

Even though the firefighters selectively chose their defence statements, it was a time-sensitive case. The firefighters were assigned to the call due to being closer than Medic 3. In the special report, the firefighters arrived at the same time as Medic 3.

The firefighters felt the woman can hold on for a few extra minutes until they get a bite out of some mouthwatering chicken. Fortunately, there were only dead chickens in this case.
