There’s no shame in shelling out boatloads of cash for something you love. One man is obsessed with Twix and admits to spending over $300 a year on the chocolate bar.
Dave Bradshaw loves Twix so much that he takes a break at 3 p.m. every work day so he can grab one to snack on. His colleagues even had to sit him down to discuss his “twixation.”
“One day my editor sat me down and said with a completely straight face: ‘I think you might have a problem.’
“My first reaction was total denial. I loudly complained about how it was perfectly normal to have a mid-afternoon snack and it was outrageous of him to claim that there was anything unusual about someone who has one every day,” Bradshaw said.
That’s when he broke out the calculator to determine the cost of his sweet tooth. After doing some math, he worked out that he was spending around $1 a day on his sweet treat, which doesn’t seem like a lot until you look at it on a larger scale.
Bradshaw determined that he was spending $349.48 every year on the chocolate delight — the same price as a decent weekend getaway.
Angered by the amount of money he was spending on chocolate, Bradshaw considered giving up the treat or rationing the bars he does buy to make them last longer.
“I don’t even have the willpower to eat a piece of fruit if there’s a Twix in the house. Every week I buy a bunch of bananas with grand intentions of turning a new, healthier leaf with my dessert habits.
“And then, five days later, I swat away all the empty Twix wrappers around the fruit bowl, pick up the now spotty yellow bananas, and grudgingly eat at least a couple of them before they turn brown, promising all the while that I’ll do better next time,” he said.
Bradshaw has accepted that he won’t be able to give up the candy bar anytime soon. It’s just too good of a treat to go cold turkey. “It is the undisputed champion of both chocolate bars and biscuits and I am not ashamed to be one of its most loyal fans. Long live Twix,” he said.
