Grandmother Finds $500 in KFC Meal

It’s not every day you find a hunk of cash in your fast food meal. A grandmother from Georgia took a visit to KFC and uncovered a remarkable surprise in her to-go bag.

JoAnn Oliver drove to a nearby KFC to grab lunch before taking the chicken sandwich meal back to her workplace to eat. When she opened her bag and pulled out the sandwich, she noticed an envelope inside with $543.10 in cash. That’s a finger-licking good deal

“I started counting it and when I got to $500, I stopped and just put it back in the envelope, closed the envelope put the sandwich back the way I got it,” Oliver said.

Not thinking twice, she grabbed her phone and called the Jackson Police Department. When officers arrived, she went with them to the restaurant to return the money. Authorities wrote on Facebook that the KFC branch’s daily deposit was somehow placed inside Oliver’s sandwich bag.

“Not only did Mrs. Oliver do the right thing but she saved the manager’s job,” officers said.

Oliver did mention that despite doing the right thing, she did consider keeping the money “for a second.” According to Oliver, her husband has suffered multiple strokes and is currently struggling with cancer. As a result, the couple are roughly $2 million in debt because of medical bills. Oliver ended up calling the authorities because she knew the money wasn’t hers.

“If you don’t do the right thing, it’s gonna come back on you,” she said. “I mean, it wasn’t mine. I didn’t need to keep it. I’ll get mine in the future.”

The KFC branch gave Oliver a small reward for doing the right thing. The restaurant refunded her sandwich and gave her a free meal.
