Japanese Cafe Offers Ninja Sword Ice Cream

Cooling off during those hot summer days with the longest ice cream in Japan sounds completely refreshing. A Japanese cafe has added a new weapon to its arsenal: Ninjato Ice, ice cream shaped like a ninja sword.

Created by Ninja Cafe Takayama in Gifu Prefecture, the new ice cream is designed to look like a Ninjato, otherwise known as a ninja sword. Ninjato differ from samurai swords in that they’re single-edged instead of double-edged. They’re also considerably shorter, measuring around 15 inches in length rather than 27 inches.

The Ninja Cafe is known as an “entertainment cafe” where customers dress up in ninja costumes and take part in “ninja training” that involves trying out shuriken, blowguns, and sword moves. The edible sword adds an extra layer of excitement for guests.

The tasty treat is also being billed as “Japan’s longest ice cream, measuring in at a whopping 17 inches long. This length means that the ice cream is roughly the same length as a real Ninjato. The cafe was able to use a hard ice cream that doesn’t melt easily so guests have plenty of time to make their way through the blade without making much of a mess.

While the Ninja Cafe is keeping the ingredients to the ice cream a secret, the hard ice cream is likely crafted with kuzu, a traditional starch extracted from the roots of the kuzu plant which is often used in confectionery as a jelling agent.

Sales for Ninjato Ice are set to begin on 22 July, 2023, with the sword priced at a reasonable $7.
