Planning the perfect proposal can include several pieces that all need to come together correctly to pull it off. Sometimes, things don’t go as planned, like with one couple’s proposal in France.
The picture-perfect proposal backdrop was the stunning Château de Castelnaud, which overlooks the river Dordogne in the south of France. Lewis Paterson planned the location since it’s the setting for Beauty and the Beast, his partner’s favourite Disney movie.
When Paterson got down on one knee to propose to his partner, Nicola Bolton, things quickly took a turn for the worse. As he flipped open the lid of the ring box, the jewelry was sent flying into a pile of horse poop and hay on the side of the road.
“She said yes. Right after I dropped the ring in a pile of stable hay and horse s***. It was never going to go to plan with me at the wheel,” Paterson said.
The couple scrambled to find the diamond in the rough with Bolton able to spot it and get the proposal back on track. Paterson was able to re-pop the question to which Bolton accepted. The couple has been in a relationship for three years and even plan to return to the village for their wedding.
“We couldn’t believe it. She saw the funny side of it luckily and we both haven’t stopped laughing. At least I got to propose to my princess in her Beauty and the Beast village,” Paterson said.
