Man to Eat Only Taco Bell for 30 Days

Super Size Me Part 2? A man has gotten some inspiration from the original fast food experiment and is embarking on his own mission: eating nothing but Taco Bell for 30 days.

Sam Reid describes himself as a “Taco Bell enthusiast.” He’s definitely going to be showing off that devotion for the next month when he puts his love to the test with his health experiment.

The 28-year-old started his mission on July 24 and will be eating Taco Bell for breakfast, lunch and dinner until August 22, 2022. That’s a total of 90 meals.

“My hope is to conduct an experiment to see if it’s possible to actually become healthier while eating exclusively at a fast-food restaurant. My hope would be that by the end of the month, I can measure a couple of different health metrics and see that I’ve become healthier,” Reid said.

Reid is attempting to mimic the experiment from the 2004 documentary Super Size Me, where Morgan Spurlock ate nothing but McDonald’s for an entire month to examine the effects of fast food on the human body. Reid chose his favorite restaurant, Taco Bell, for his version.

Taco Bell is one of the few fast food chains that offers relatively healthy menu items and alternatives. In 2016, the restaurant announced that 20% of its combo meals would meet nutritional guidelines for calories and fat set out by the federal government in 2020.

“I thought that if there was any chain that this would be possible with, it’s probably Taco Bell,” Reid continued.

To document his journey, Reid created a Kickstarter page to help fund the experiment. It’s going to be pricy purchasing all that food.
