Man Who Returned $6.4 Million Cheque to Haribo Rewarded With Candy

When someone completes a good deed, they are often rewarded for their work. One man was hoping to get a bit more than he received after he returned a $6.4 million cheque to its rightful company and was rewarded with candy.

Anouar G. from Frankfurt, Germany, was visiting his mother when he noticed a cheque lying on a train platform. He first saw the piece of paper fluttering on the floor and was shocked when he picked it up to see what it was.

The cheque came from the German supermarket chain, Rewe, and was made out to the candy company, Haribo, for $6.4 million. Anouar contacted the company about his findings and they asked him to destroy the cheque and send a photo as proof.

The 38-year-old did as requested and a few days later, he received a box from Haribo in the mail filled with a lousy six packs of the company’s candies for doing the right thing. “I thought that was a bit cheap,” Anouar said.

Haribo admitted that they were contacted about the cheque but the reward was the company’s “standard” response for similar situations. “Since it was a named cheque, nobody but our company could have redeemed it,” Haribo said in a statement. “It was our standard package that we send as a thank you.”

Looks like Anouar will have to deal with the sweet treat with a sour taste in his mouth.
