McDonald’s Announces Plant-Based McNuggets

Vegans and vegetarians alike have been asking for McDonald’s to offer more than just a burger as a plant-based alternative. After long last, the fast food company has finally introduced plant-based McNuggets.

Germany was chosen as the first market to receive the McPlant Nuggets, which are made from peas, corn and wheat with tempura batter. The nuggets are the second product McDonald’s has co-developed with Beyond Meat after they launched their McPlant burger in 2021.

McDonald’s confirmed that the availability of the McPlant nuggets and burgers in other locations will depend on customer demand. European customers have taken to the company’s plant-based products more so than those in the United States.

The McPlant burger has become a permanent menu item in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Austria and the Netherlands and the Double McPlant burger has been introduced in the U.K. and Ireland. As for the U.S., McDonald’s ended its test of the McPlant burger in 2022 and has yet to announce any future plans.
