What’s better than mermaids playing sweet music underwater? Divers wearing mermaid tails ventured underwater with their musical instruments to play at the 39th annual Lower Keys Underwater Music Festival.
The event, which takes place at Looe Key Reef in Florida, featured the mermaid performers miming with their instruments while real music was circulated into the area via underwater speakers by US1Radio.
The Florida Keys & Key West said in a Facebook post that some of the songs played during the mock concert included themed tunes like “Yellow Submarine” by The Beatles, “Fins” by Jimmy Buffet,” along with songs from the films Pirates of the Caribbean and The Little Mermaid.
The event is held each year to continually raise awareness of the need to protect the Looe Key Reef, an area of the NOAA Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary.
