While counting change may be a hassle, it’s one thing this group of thieves will have to do. Robbers in Philadelphia managed to break into a truck filled with $750,000 in dimes, making off with a decent-sized chunk of the cargo.
Authorities estimate that the thieves fled with at least $100,000, leaving the remaining mountain of change scattered around a parking lot. It remains unclear as to how they managed to cart off the mounds of dimes.
The theft was reported around 6 a.m. on April 13, 2023. A tractor-trailer driver had picked up the dimes from the Philadelphia Mint the day before and was planning to transport them to Florida.
No arrests have been made and authorities are still trying to determine how many people were involved in the theft and if they knew what the truck actually contained. Investigators are also trying to figure out how much money was taken from the vehicle.
