Truck Hauling Bananas Catches Fires on Florida Highway

To people living in Florida, the smell of burnt bananas is not an appetizing one. A semi truck hauling a load of bananas managed to catch fire on a Florida highway, leading to quite the mess to clean up.

The Florida Highway Patrol reported that a semi truck hauling a load of bananas caught fire on Interstate 75, near mile marker 310 in Sumter County, Florida. The FHP said it was “not an ap-peeling situation” for them to deal with.

The fire occurred as a result of a mechanical issue around 3 a.m. on July 14, 2023. Troopers assisting with the incident said the driver was able to pull the truck over to the shoulder and stop.

No injuries were reported and cleanup crews were called to the scene to remove the truck and scorched bananas. On Twitter, FHP Tampa asked drivers using the highway to “use caution in the area as crews continue the clean-up.”
