Woman Shot by Own Gun After Bringing It Into MRI

When heading to the doctor, it’s best to leave the gun at home. A woman was shot by her own gun after bringing it into her MRI appointment.

According to a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) report, the unnamed woman brought the concealed handgun into the room with the MRI instrument before it went off, hitting her in the behind. The magnet had attracted the handgun, forcing it to fire a round.

An MRI machine uses a powerful magnet and radio waves to realign the body’s atoms. The atoms return to their original position after the machine is turned off and send back a signal that the machine can read to create an image.

Patients are expected to remove any metal piercings and medical devices like pacemakers, cochlear implants, insulin pumps, and metal hip and knee replacements, must be evaluated to make sure that they are safe to bring into the machine.

Fortunately, the gunshot did not go very deep and the 57-year-old is currently recovering from her injury. It remains unclear as to how the patient was able to sneak the gun in as she had been screened for any metal objects and wasn’t carrying anything potentially dangerous into the appointment.
