Saying goodbye to colleagues after quitting a job can be bittersweet. One woman found a creative way to say see ya, crafting “sorry for your loss” candles so her colleagues could “mourn her.”
Branka Oljaca has quite the sense of humor, as do her former colleagues for going along with the funny joke. The former dental assistant decided to leave her job to work full time on her own candle business. Her inventive candles left her coworkers in stitches by adding a photo of her face to the “sorry for your loss” candles.
Olijaca quit her job in June 2021 when her candle-making business was enough to support her financially. “I wanted to do something to give to everyone when I left,” she said. Her colleagues had always been supportive of her new venture and Oljaca wanted to do something special to say goodbye.
“I made them candles at Christmas so I was thinking along those lines and then I thought I could make it funny. I got it in my head to make ‘sorry for your loss’ candles with my face all over them and knew I had to do it,” she said.
The 24-year-old filmed a video of her making the candles and posted it on TikTok. The video went viral with over 2.8 million views, which helped Oljaca’s company kick off even more.
All of Oljaca’s colleagues found the candles extremely funny. “They all laughed so much. I was really sad to leave because they are such a great team.
“Ironically, on my last day, I burst into tears when they got me leaving gifts. They all joked then that it was my loss, not theirs,” she said.
