Some people aren’t the sharpest tools in the shed. An owner of an electric vehicle thought it would be a good idea to place a toaster underneath the car to warm up its battery but ended up causing a fire that destroyed it.
The fire took place on December 2, 2023, in Stenlille, Denmark. The car was parked in a carport while the toaster was placed underneath with the hopes of warming up the vehicle’s battery.
According to police, the fire not only destroyed the car, it also damaged a nearby house. After this issue, the authorities have “strongly discouraged” people from using this method to heat power cells.
“The cause of the fire is most likely to be found in the toaster that the owner of the car had placed under the front of his car to keep the battery warm,” police said in a report.
Fortunately, no one was injured. The car’s owner now faces a fine for the damage they caused.
